Our Master Goldsmith

David has always had a passion for jewellery making. At the age of 16 he attended the school of jewellery and silversmithing for 3 years to attain his advanced city and guilds qualification.

After extensive training, David went on to obtain 5 years’ experience working for a top London Jewellers making object d’art for an international market.

He later took up a part time teaching post at the School of jewellery whilst he set up his own workshop making one off commissions for private and corporate clients. It was during this time that he was introduced to Barbara in 1991 to make a bangle for her Diamonds International competition entry.

Knowledge, passion and talent

Whilst working closely together, Barbara and David realised that they not only had a great passion for jewellery design and manufacturing but many other things in common too. They married in 1995.

David is one of the few Craftsmen in the world that is able to execute Barbara’s complex designs and understand the nature of the unusual materials in which she uses to create these award-winning pieces. He has used his years of knowledge, passion and talent to train apprentices with the hope of keeping this unusual trade of jewellery making alive and the standard of British manufacturing high.

David’s Raison d’etre; Keep Life challenging to improve quality. David is a keen cyclist and when he isn’t at his work bench, he can be found tackling mountainous routes on his Bicycle.

Great experience choosing my Girlfriend (now Fiance) engagement ring. Barbara provided a selection of diamonds for me to choose from which made the whole process feel special and personal. Unfortunately I guessed Fiona's finger size incorrectly. But after the proposal we dropped the ring back in and Barbara's husband resized it whilst we went off for a coffee. Excellent Service! Thank you Barbara and team for making this important purchase less stressful for me.

Thankyou for the beautiful lioness cuff and lucky pebble with lioness and diamond. They looked impressive on your website but the quality , value and workmanship are more exceptional in reality. A big thankyou to you all for your professionalism and patience during our long distance communication. Nothing was too diificult! Lions are my wife's favourite animal so she loves the pieces. Looking forward to dealing with Barbara Tipple Goldsmiths in the future.

What an amazing experience to start a design from scratch and see the end piece come together so beautifully. Knowing I played a part in the process made it extra special.
