Dr Barbara Tipple is one of the most accomplished jewellers in Britain today. Her company has a history of extraordinary bespoke commissions, numerous jewellery industry awards, an honorary PhD, the title of Freedom of The City of London and long-lasting relationships with some of the most discerning jewellery collectors across the world.
Barbara Tipple is a jewellery company with a proud British heritage, founded by a woman with immense talent, who built up her business alone, for many years as a single mother, before marrying the love of her life and eventual business partner – her goldsmith David Ward. In recognition of their excellence in jewellery, the Goldsmiths’ Company has awarded both Barbara Tipple and David Ward Freedom of the City of London, an honorary title which dates back to the 13 th century. In addition, Barbara Tipple is the only female jeweller in Britain to ever have received 3 De Beers Diamonds International Awards. Among Barbara Tipple’s extraordinary commissions are jewels which hold and interpret intensely personal stories – happy, tragic, hidden and revealed.
Today, Barbara Tipple and David Ward travel regularly to source the perfect precious gemstones for Barbara Tipple’s designs – whether for her collections or her one-off pieces. Every single piece of Barbara Tipple jewellery is entirely handmade in Britain. Almost every piece in Barbara Tipple’s jewellery collections is available for bespoke requests incorporating expertly sourced precious gemstones. “When I was 18 years old, I went to see a contemporary jewellery exhibition. It was a light- bulb moment for me. I knew instantly that was exactly what I was destined for. 40 years later, I still adore what I do.” Barbara Tipple
